The need for speed and the knowledge when to slow down

Just wanting to start my introduction and what I hope to accomplish with this blog.  I have always enjoyed the competition of racing motor vehicles.  I started doing a little street racing, and eventually moved to the dragstrip (00WS6 is my weapon of choice).  While I still enjoy the quarter mile, I am looking for something that gives me more time to become lost in the moment.  So I have switched to racing motorcycles and am hoping to learn some tips in pursuing my racing career professionally..  Currently I will be using the 01 R1 as my trackbike with hopes of trying my hand at some amatuer racing.

A little more about me.  I’m 5′7” 160 lbs and have owned two motorcycles, 03 GSXR 750 and currently 01 R1 with about 60,000 miles of riding.  Don’t ask me which one I like better as each one has their pros and cons.

The gixxer is bulkier and thicker in the middle, but at speeds felt more stable.  Power delivery was spot on and I found no hesitation with throttle inputs. The brakes offer more than enough stopping power with no fork diving…..still on my top list for best overall sportbike.

The yammy is a completely different animal, make sure your head is screwed on tight.  This bike is light, fast, flickable, and requires full concentration.  The power down low is awesome but tends to get a little nervous at speeds.  I have had my hands full trying to get the suspension to my liking.  The brakes are awesome and power delivery is great, but it does seem to run out of steam on the top end.

Anyway, back to what’s next.  I have started a workout routine to build up my cardivascular and endurance.  I run 2 miles 3 times a week, 100 sit-ups/push-ups and 30 minutes  ellipses daily.  I have also cut back on carbs and drinking. I hope to post as often as possible and when I can have time to download from each event.  Feel free to post advice and/or well wishes!
